Iowa EPSCoR’s Annual All-Hands Meeting was held July 21-22, 2014 at Iowa State University's Scheman Building in Ames, Iowa, for all Iowa EPSCoR faculty, staff and students.

The meeting shared our progress, highlighted scientific and broader impact accomplishments, and featured student research posters. Meeting participants also participated in a networking session with other faculty, a new event for the Iowa NSF EPSCoR Annual Meeting.

In an effort to hold a more sustainable annual meeting, we used a series of Web pages and PDFs instead of paper conference materials.


Trieu Mai, member of the Energy Forecasting and Modeling Group, provided a keynote address discussing the future of renewable energies, including wind and biofuels.

Networking Session

On Monday, July 21, Iowa NSF EPSCoR researchers were given the opportunity to network with other researchers. Three seed grants of $20,000 each will be awarded to the most promising research proposals. Collaborators are invited to submit a short proposal by August 4, 2014 to Ted Heindel (

Faculty Professional Development Workshop

A faculty professional development workshop, Effective Broader Impacts Writing, took place July 21 from 5:30-7:30 as a highlight of the meeting. The program featured Elena Cotos, Graduate College Academic Communication Program Director.

Student Poster Display

[IMAGE]: 2014 Poster Competition

A poster competition was held at the 2014 Iowa EPSCoR All Hands Meeting, with over 50 poster entrants.

The student poster competition provided an opportunity for students to showcase their current or completed research and earn a cash prize.
